The Queen James Bible

The Queen James Bible (QJB) is a bible marketed to and probably by homosexuals that purports to be exactly like the King James Bible except for eight verses the authors edited "to prevent homophobic interpretations." The authors chose the title "The Queen James Bible" because they allege that King James I biographers commonly knew he "was a well known bisexual." Sadly, I could find no reference in the QJB of a biographer that knew that. I think it's a very remote possibility that King James was a bisexual but if he was, it has nothing relevant to the Bible named after him because he wasn't one of the translators. King James only authorized its translation and arranged funding for the translators.

The authors of the QJB noted that "many versions of the Bible translated and published since the King James Bible have changed the language, so the precedent has been set for editing." How true that is. If they modified only eight verses of the King James Bible, they did MUCH less modifying than did the New King James Version (NKJV), the New International Version (NIV), the New American Standard Bible (NASB) and all of the other new bibles I've reviewed.

We'll now compare the eight verses modified in the QJB with those verses in the King James Bible, the NKJV (in fact my Andrews Study Bible that is as Seventh-day Adventist as Mark Finley, DD) and The Clear Word for Kids (CWK) by Seventh-day Adventist scholar Jack Blanco, PhD.

Text Number One - Genesis 19:5

King James Bible - "And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them."

QJB - "And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may rape and humiliate them." The sin is now not so much sodomy as being unfriendly to strangers.

NKJV - "And they called to Lot and said to him, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.'" If there was just the addition of something about humiliation, this would probably have been acceptable to the authors of the QJB.

CWK - "They said to Lot, 'Bring your guests and come with us, and we'll all have a good time.'" Nothing remotely homophobic there.

Text Number Two - Leviticus 18:22

King James Bible - "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

QJB - "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind in the temple of Molech: it is an abomination." That part about Molech is made up but it's no different than the NIV translators that also made things up but don't tell you they did so.

NKJV - "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is abomination."

CWK - "Don't practice homosexuality. That's an awful sin." The authors of the QJB make the point that the word homosexuality only came up in the Revised Standard Version in 1946 and they're right. That said, they're still unhappy about the way the King James Bible had it.

Text Number Three - Leviticus 20:13

King James Bible - "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

QJB - "If a man also lie with mankind in the temple of Molech, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." The part about Molech is again made up. You see, it's not the perverted sex that's the sin, it's doing it in the temple of Molech.

NKJV - If a man lies with a male as he lies wth a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."

CWK - "If two men have sex together, they have done a disgusting thing and should be put to death."

Text Number Four - Romans 1:26

King James Bible - "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature."

QJB - "Their women did change their natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, left of the natural use of the women, burned in ritual lust, one toward another."

NKJV - "For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature."

CWK - "Because He is gentle and kind, God doesn't force people to be good. He gives them the right to choose. So people abuse the freedom God gave them. Women try to marry women, and men try to marry men. They're breaking God's law and will reap the consequences." This "Bible" reversed verses 26 and 27 so both are included. And yes, it is called a "Bible" for Jack Blanco, retired professor and dean of Southern Adventist University in a note to the "Dear Young Reader" says, "this paraphrased Bible was written especially for you!"

Text Number Five - Romans 1:27

King James Bible - "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

QJB - "Men with men working that which is pagan and unseemly. For this cause God gave the idolators up to vile affections, receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

NKJV - "Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due."

Text Number Six - 1 Corinthians 6:9

King James Bible - "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,"

QJB - "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor morally weak, nor promiscuous,"

NKJV - "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites." A footnote in the Andrews Study Bible for this verse says that passive male homosexuals are sodomites and that dominant ones are called homosexuals. In the King James Bible effeminate means acting like a woman (that could be dress or mannerisms). It seems unlikely Paul would use two different words to describe homosexuals. The scholars certainly didn't get that definition from the discussion of Sodom and Gomorrha in Genesis; it is the scholar's imagination.

CWK - "Don't you know that those who worship idols." Yes, that's all there is to verse 9.

Text Number Seven - 1 Timothy 1:10

King James Bible - "For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;"

QJB - "For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine."

NKJV - "for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,"

CWK - "It's against criminals, murderers, kidnappers, liars, and those that live impure lives. It's even against Christians who live contrary to God's commandments. Sound doctrine brings the law and the gospel together."

Text Number Eight - Jude 1:7

King James Bible - "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

QJB - "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after nonhuman flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." Homosexuality has been changed to bestiality.

NKJV - "as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

CWK - "Look at Sodom and Gomorrah. Those cities were so wicked that God had to destroy them by fire. While they are no longer burning, the results will last forever. That's what will happen to all who are rebellious and determined to live their own way." Read about Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis in this bible. It seems a little extreme to burn up a couple of cities for making guests go to a party and have a good time.
The authors of the QJB are apparently happy with the verses in Deuteronomy 23:17, 1 Kings 14:24, 15:12 and 22:46 and 2 Kings 23:7 where sodomites are mentioned unchanged from the King James Bible. They were probably satisfied with changing the meaning in Genesis to being unfriendly to strangers since that changed the definition of sodomite. Maybe they'll change these other verses later as being unfriendly to strangers doesn't fit the context of these verses well.

Are you happy with how the NKJV and CWK handled the above verses? Look them up for yourself. The NKJV called sodomites or their activities ritual harlots (they made that up), perverted persons (they were perverted but it doesn't elaborate on the perversion) and, in a footnote to 2 Kings 23:7 in the Andrews Study Bible, ritual prostitution (they made that up to). The CWK mentioned jobs at pagan temples, undressing in front of idols, men working at pagan shrines and pagan priests. Both bibles removed all connection of those verses with the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The authors of the QJB only modified eight verses of the Authorized Version to make the bible say what they wanted it to say. They were even honest about it. They told you which verses were modified and why they were modified. The NKJV and CWK have many more perverted verses but the publishers that call those bibles, don't tell you what they did or why they did it.

If the Andrews University Press would get permission to market the QJB with their own footnotes, they could probably make a lot of money and would be providing a bible with many fewer corruptions than their Andrews Study Bible. Likewise, adventistbookcenter.com could market the QJB which would be a better bible than the NASB, the CWK and the NKJV they already sell.

At the judgment before the great white throne, I wonder if it will work to tell God that you violated his law because you went by a bible modified to what you wanted it to say.
